The following is a timeline of the events in the 2017 game What Remains of Edith Finch.

Before 1900

• The Finches' "curse" first begins.

• Odin Finch is born.

• June 17 - Sven Finch is born.

1917

• April 8 - Edie Finch is born to Odin and Ingeborg Finch.

1928

• Edie adopts a parakeet named Churpy.

December

• December 11 - Molly Finch is born to Edie and Sven Finch.
• Odin Finch sails his family and his house from Norway to Orcas Island, Washington.
• High waves sink the boat and the house, killing Odin.

• August 26 - Sven Finch dies after falling from a dragon-shaped slide which collapsed on top of him in the pond.

• September 6 - Sanjay Kumar is born.

• Sam Finch enlists in the army and leaves the house.

• A pet named Daisy is adopted.

1986

• Dawn and Sanjay meet in Calcutta during a volunteer trip.
• August 18 - Dawn and Sanjay begin dating.

1987

• June 12 - Dawn flies to India to teach English.
• Dawn and Sanjay get married.

1988

• A cat named Charlie is adopted.

• Edie adopts a lovebird named Durpy Jr.

1995

• Zurpy the owl dies.
• A dog named Schatzi is adopted.

1997

• Rob the lizard dies.

1999

• February 14 - Edith Finch is born to Dawn and Sanjay. According to Edie, on that day an earthquake in the ocean allowed Edie to approach the old house.

2000s

• Dawn Finch adopts a stray calico cat and names it Molly.

2002

• February 22 - Sanjay dies in an earthquake during a relief mission.
• Dawn moves herself and her children in with Edie.
• Lewis finds the secret passageways between rooms. He presumably tells Milton, who paints the walls (a cat outside Molly's room, a swing outside Sam and Calvin's room, and a jack-o'-lantern outside Barbara's room).

Milton builds a sand castle, which is washed away by the sea, and vows to build a castle that would last forever.

• May 19 - Edie Finch gives Milton Finch a castle for his birthday.

2003

• October 23 - Milton Finch goes missing. A flip book on his desk depicts Milton using a magic paintbrush to make a flip book depicting him painting a door, then stepping through, bowing, and closing the door behind him. The paintbrush itself rests on his desk, and the painting of the door matches the door to his room.

Milton builds a city, wanting it to be perfect, and creates a monster to consume its imperfections. He is afraid for the first time in his life.

2004

• Dawn Finch seals all the doors in the Finch house. Edie retaliates and drills peepholes.

Milton Finch leaves his city and presumably marries and has a son Monroe.

2005

• March 31 - Walter leaves the bunker and dies after being hit by a train.

2006

• Durpy Jr. the lovebird dies.

2007

• Charlie the cat dies.

2009

• Schatzi the dog dies.

2010

• January - Lewis begins seeking treatment for substance abuse, realizes the monotony of his daily life, and begins to live in a fantasy.
• November 21 - Lewis Finch commits suicide.
• November 23 - Lewis's psychiatrist writes the letter to Dawn.
• December 4 - Dawn and Edith Finch leave the Finch house after a heated argument between Dawn and Edie.
• December 5 - Edie Finch dies, presumably from mixing alcohol and medication the night before.

2013

This section contains spoilers for The Unfinished Swan.
The events of "The Unfinished Swan" take place. Milton dies and passes his paintbrush on to his son Monroe.

2016

• May - Edith Finch becomes pregnant with her son.
• October 10 - Dawn Finch is hospitalized from an unknown illness.
• October 12 - Dawn Finch dies.
• Edith Finch inherits the Finch house. Her mother bequeaths Edith a key in her will, and Edith returns to the house.

2017

• January 18 - Edith Finch dies giving birth to her son, Christopher.

Notes

• While Molly had a pet gerbil, and Edith had at least 3, the dates of their adoption and death are unknown.
• There are two unmarked graves in the pet cemetery, presumably for Bob the snake and Rob the lizard. Two other graves depict a fish and a rabbit, but no names or dates are listed.

This timeline assumes the King's story begins immediately after Milton's disappearance. It is possible years or even decades passed before Milton created the kingdom in "The Unfinished Swan."
